HULTDINS grapple saws: SuperSaw-EasyConnect 550-EC, 550-S-EC
Grapple saws can improve the safety and economy of the work involved in timber transport, timber harvesting, and sawmills.
Operating a grapple saw first requires an additional hydraulic circuit for the grapple saw drive and a rotator with two additional channels for the endless rotation of the grapple. Often, installing this additional circuit encounters problems. In particular, modern cranes with internal tubing offer no space for additional lines. To resolve this problem, HULTDINS has developed a solution that does not need additional tubing:
The new SuperSaw EasyConnect
To date, grapple saws were attached to HSM, Noe and HSM combi machines (Skidders with loadings space, strong crane and winch) to short and long timber trucks with Cranab, Epsilon, LIV and Loglift cranes from 12-29 mt. It has also been installed on different excavators in sawmills.
For the trade fair Euroforest 2018, we fitted a long timber vehicle with a Loglift 251 crane and EasyConnect grapple saw. The grapple saw is regulated only via the hydraulic pressure. In doing so, we installed a switchable pressure cutoff valve in the grapple’s functional line directly downstream of the valve, and set it to 210 bar. The valve can be closed at a foot switch, raising the pressure in the grapple line to the maximum pressure of 230 bar. A mount is installed between the rotator and grapple, and the grapple saw is connected on the side. The adapter causes the empty grapple to hang down vertically, simplifying the takeup of timber. The rotator used is the standard that comes with the crane without additional channels for the grapple saw. The pressure line to the grapple saw motor is connected to the “Close grapple” function, the return line from the grapple saw motor connected to “Open grapple”. Now the grapple saw’s cut-in pressure is set to switch in the grapple saw only when the pressure exceeds 210 bar. Installed on the truck is an 80 cc pump. Installed on the Loglift crane are ½″ lines for the grapple functions. This means that there are about
